JLPT级别

N3

The grammar pattern "~ば~のに" in Japanese is used to express a situation that didn't happen, but you wish it had happened or you expected it to happen.
It's often used to convey a sense of regret, disappointment, or frustration.
The first clause before "~ば" describes the condition that would have led to a certain result, and the second clause after "~のに" expresses the actual outcome that didn't happen.
For example, if you say "行けばよかったのに" (Ikeba yokatta noni), it means "I wish I had gone" or "I should have gone", indicating that you regret not going when you had the chance.
